No, Internet service during the trial phase is free, and you
are not obligated to purchase anything to participate in the
trial. We only ask that you use the service and complete several
brief surveys during the trial period to help Con Edison, EarthLink,
and Ambient evaluate the technology and customer acceptance
of the service.
Trial participants will receive a starter kit with a step-by-step
Quick
Start Guide and the few parts (modem, Ethernet cord,
power supply, and EarthLink Total Access Software) needed for
an easy and successful installation. If you have any questions
about how to complete the installation our Technical Service
agents will be happy to help you.
The technology has no impact on the way you currently communicate
with your present Internet service, and you are not required
to drop your current Internet and email services to participate
in the trial.
EarthLink will be your ISP during the trial while the network
will be deployed and supported by Con Edison and Ambient.
If your current ISP is participating in the BPL trial, or if
you use web-based email, you may be able to access your current
email accounts using the BPL network. Also, you are not required
to drop your current Internet and email service to participate
in the trial.
EarthLink, Con Edison and Ambient Corporation have teamed up
to provide this free high-speed Internet service to select customers
as part of a test to evaluate the potential use of the technology
for improving the efficiency of the electric system.
